CRP undertook research funded by The Columbus Foundation to study the causes and patterns of high student and family mobility in elementary schools in the Columbus Public School District and make recommendations for addressing high mobility rates. The project—one of the most comprehensive of its type in the nation—included neighborhood demographic analysis, quantitative analysis of student movement patterns using data from the CPS Student Information System, key informant interviews, family interviews, review of administrative processes related to student movement, and best practices research. A project advisory committee provided input in to the project design, reviewed interim reports, and helped to develop recommendations. The project was completed in October 2003, and CRP worked with community organizations on an implementation strategy.
