Benchmarking Central Ohio 2007
The Columbus Partnership

Benchmarking is a process by which standardized, measurable indicators are used to track and assess how a community is doing. The Columbus Partnership asked Community Research Partners to compare central Ohio with selected similar and "best in class" metro areas across the country on a broad framework of indicators, with a focus on economic competitiveness. The 2007 benchmarking report compares the Columbus metro area with 15 other communities on 54 indicators that describe the characteristics of the population, economy, and quality of life.

The principles which guided the creation of this report are: 1) Benchmarking against both similar and best-in-class communities 2) selecting indicators from a broad framework, focusing on economic competitiveness 3) getting advice from local experts 4) use easily accessible, recent data 4) produe a product that is useful to a wide audience and, 5)provide regular updates.

The 2007 report is a baseline against which central Ohio can measure progress in the future.

The 2008 report is now available here.
